The OPC (OLE for Process Control) standard brings SCADA software a convenience similar to the flexibility the IEC standard gave at the controller level. Traditional control systems contain closed, proprietary communication structures; in them, distributing field data between different units is laborious and costly if not impossible. Often, data obtained from automated systems is passed by hand to where it is needed. The result is a dilemma for plants: either make do with little data or bear the labor and efficiency loss of collecting what is needed.

What changes with OPC?

Thanks to the OPC standard, communicating with any hardware in your field that supports it becomes very easy from any computer on your plant network (regardless of operating system). Without special hardware, using the Ethernet infrastructure already in your plant, you can read the data collected from the field from an OPC Server and pass it to any destination you want.

Kepware Server

Kepware's flagship product Kepware Server (formerly KEPServerEX, now part of Velotic) is the connectivity specialist for your Industry 4.0 project, with drivers for more than 150 different controllers. It combines the OPC Server, IoT Gateway and Advanced Tags features on a single platform:

  • Drivers: connect to PLCs, DCSs and devices from different vendors through a single interface.
  • OPC Server: presents field data to OPC clients (SCADA, HMI, historian, MES) in a standard way.
  • IoT Gateway: publishes data with the protocols the IT and cloud side uses.

Are Kepware Server and Kepware Server the same product?

Yes. The product is now called Kepware Server by its manufacturer; Kepware Server is the earlier and widely used name.

Which devices can be connected?

More than 150 controller drivers are offered. For a specific device you can reach the most current list on the OPC Turkey pages or ask us.

Do I need OPC Router?

Kepware Server connects to devices and presents the data; OPC Router is for designing data flows between systems (database, MES, SAP and so on). The need depends on where the data has to go; they are also used together.
