What is the difference between DCS and PLC?
A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is a single control device designed for speed-oriented applications with mostly discrete signals. A DCS (Distributed Control System) is an integrated architecture designed for continuous process control, made of distributed controllers with a common data model and operator interface. PLC is the natural choice for small and mid-size machine automation, DCS for large continuous-process facilities; many plants run both together.
Can we upgrade our legacy DCS without stopping production?
Yes — with proper planning. Modernization projects start with a thorough inventory (hardware, I/O, application programs, upper systems) and then minimize production loss with a parallel-operation or phased migration strategy. The cut-over happens in a short planned shutdown once the rollback plan and FAT tests are ready. We detail the approach in our "Modernizing Legacy DCS Systems" article.
How is Kepware Server licensed?
Kepware Server is licensed by the number of active device (driver) connections; the license can be extended as your needs grow. ASP Otomasyon is the sole authorized distributor of Kepware products in Turkey; request a quote for licensing and selection. You can also review OPC Turkey's licensing page for details.
What is the difference between OPC UA and OPC DA?
OPC DA is the classic OPC interface built on COM/DCOM, a Windows-specific technology with limited cross-machine security. OPC UA is the modern specification: platform-independent, with certificate-based security as standard, carrying data together with information models. OPC UA is preferred for new projects and OT/IT integration.
